Shreveport Sports righthanded pitcher Colby Miller has been sold to the Florida Marlins and will report to the Marlins spring training camp in February. Although Miller only posted a 6-9 record last season with the Sports, at the close of the year he was considered as the best pitcher on the Sports staff. His ERA of 3.18 was fourth best in the American Association in 2007. In 127 1/3 innings Miller recorded 83 strikeouts and led the league with three shutouts. Miller signed with the Sports last year after spending seven seasons in the Minnesota Twins farm system. The 25-year old righthander, a native of Weatherford, OK, was a third round draft pick of the Twins in 2007. He is the first player to be sold to a major league team off the 2007 Sports club. In 2006, the Sports had two players signed by a major league team. Outfielders Todd Self was signed by the Houston Astros and Coby Smith was inked by the Los Angeles Angels. The Shreveport Sports will open the 2008 season on May 8th at El Paso with the home opener slated for May 13th against Grand Prairie, Texas, one of two new franchises in the American Association for the coming season.
