Conyers, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball
is pleased to announce the addition of Jackson, Mississippi, the
newest SCL club for the 2008 baseball season. Jackson will be the
first new addition to the second-year independent professional
baseball league.
“We are thrilled to bring Jackson
and Mississippi into the SCL and bring professional baseball back
to tradition-rich Smith-Wills Stadium,” said league CEO,
Jamie Toole.
The 2008 season will see all teams complete
an 80-game schedule starting in May and finishing the first week
of August. A complete schedule and further team news will be
released in the coming weeks.
Jackson will complete the
six-team, independent league’s line-up, as the Bradenton
(FL) Juice operations have been suspended for 2008. Due to
scheduling conflicts and other circumstances surrounding the
Bradenton club, the Juice were put on the road for the better
part of the 2007 season. The league hopes to undo the operational
suspension for the Juice and return to the market in the near
future.
Smith-Wills Stadium has a storied history with
affiliated and independent minor league baseball. The Jackson
Mets, Generals, DiamondKats, and Senators have all called
Smith-Wills Stadium home. The DiamondKats and Senators were both
in independent leagues.
Jackson’s newest
professional sports team will receive its name through a name the
team contest. Fans wishing to participate may log on to
